    VIDEO CONTEST: THE 7º ENTRY

So, if you're going to make a video for our Hopes And Fears video contest, using Snowed Under, it obviously helps if you live in a place with lots of snow. Which, as luck would have it, was the case for Keane fan Lena S who lives in Siberia, Russia. Over to Lena:

"This is my video for Hopes and Fears video contest. It's my first video ever! And so I'm a little bit nervous about it. This song I associate with my town, people that are living here and my friends. I love this song so much and I unhesitatingly decided filming video on this song. Recently have been a lot of snowfalls and I was very glad to it Some frames with my crazy friends, because I filmed it yesterday, after birthday party of my friend. And I want congratulate her with birthday. So, Happy Birthday Olya!!
I hope that you will like it. I hope you won't judge strictly."

    VIDEO CONTEST: THE 5º ENTRY

Yes, to get you in the mood for video making this weekend, here's another entry for our Hopes And Fears video contest, from Karla S in Monterrey, Mexico. We've seen a few animated videos made using The Sims in our time, but this one really impressed for its direction and narrative. Good job Karla.

By the way, we've had a few videos submitted which are really good, but use copyrighted material (usually other people's photographs). Unfortuantely, we can't allow those videos for the competition, as they infringe a third party's rights. So please make sure everything in your videos is your own, original work.

Don't forget, we're looking for you videos for:

    - Bend And Break
    - We Might As Well Be Strangers
    - Your Eyes Open
    - She Has No Time
    - Can't Stop Now
    - Sunshine
    - Untitled 1
    - Snowed Under

You have until November 9th to make your video. When you have, please upload it to Vimeo or YouTube and send the link to videos@keanemusic.com. Only one video per person, please.

One winner will be picked for each of the eight songs. We will then select one overall winner who will win a deluxe Hopes And Fears bundle featuring a double CD, a T-shirt and a limited edition signed poster. The seven other song winners will each receive a signed copy of the Hopes And Fears Deluxe Edition double CD.

Thanks to everyone who's entered videos so far. We're really impressed with the standard (as are the band, who've been checking them out too).

    VIDEO CONTEST: THE 4º ENTRY

Today's entry for our Hopes And Fears video contest is a suitably brooding effort from Edwin in the Netherlands. Keep those entries coming folks!

    Wednesday, 21 October 2009

    VIDEO CONTEST: THE 3º ENTRY

Here's another entry for our Hopes And Fears video contest - by Isa from Peru.

Isa explains that her video, "is based on a true love story of a very particular Keane fan: my dog called Neron. Near my house, there's a black schnauzer female dog which likes to walk by my door and bark for Neron. Of course Neron has fallen in love with her and he suffers when he does not see her and even cries because he wants to go out and look for her. He knows it is an impossible love because her owner is looking for a schnauzer male dog. That's why Neron understands very well the song We Might As Well Be Strangers" Aw, poor Neron.

    Keep those entries coming folks...

    Tuesday, 20 October 2009

    VIDEO CONTEST: THE 2º ENTRY

Hey folks. The entries are starting to flood in for our Hopes And Fears video contest - and we're going to try and show you as many as possible of them. Like this terrific one, from Pedro Atiénzar.

(If we don't show yours before the contest closes, it doesn't mean that it's not in with a chance of winning - we just won't be able to show all of them.)

As you know, Hopes And Fears is being reissued with a deluxe edition on November 11th 2009. To celebrate, we're asking you to make a video for the songs on the album that don't currently have a video. We'd like your films to be imaginative, creative, original and interesting. You have until November 11th to make your video. When you have, please upload it to Vimeo or YouTube and send the link to videos@keanemusic.com. For all the contest info - including T&Cs - please click here. We can't wait to see what you come up with.

AND THE BEST KEANE MASHUP TRACK IS...
Last week on keanemusic.com, we decided to run an impromptu poll to discover what the best Keane mashup track is (a mashup being a song which mixes two different songs together). First we asked readers to let us know their favourite Keane mashup, then we put it to the vote. Click here to check out the ten best mashup tracks and to hear the eventual winner. Can you guess whether it's the one featuring Paul McCartney, Janet Jackson or Timbaland?

PRE-ORDER HOPES AND FEARS DELUXE EDITIONS
Don't forget that you can pre-order you copy of the 2CD deluxe edition of Hopes And Fears from the official Keane shop, which also has special bundles and T-shirts on offer. Click here to check out the album's tracklisting and to pre-order your copy.

    SIGNED ALBUM WINNER
You might remember that the last KWN had a competition to win a signed copy of the Hopes And Fears deluxe edition. The randomly-picked winner is Amy F from Millbury, MA in the US. Congratulation Amy - and thanks to the (literally) thousands of you who entered. We'll have another KWN competition soon.

Now, please go and make a video...

    On A Day Like Today...

On a day like today, just a year ago, the third studio album of the band was released - Perfect Symmetry. Featuring 11 brand new songs, and the hits 'Spiralling', 'The Lovers Are Losing' and 'Perfect Symmetry', Keane took another new and exciting direction with their music. And it was great. Happy birthday Perfect Symmetry!

THE BEST KEANE MASHUP TRACK IS...

The votes are in, the closing date has passed and the final results are as follows:

So, it's congratulation to Let Keane In by Paul McCartney vs Keane, which is now officially (according to km.com, at least) the best Keane mashup track ever.
The track was put together in March 2005 by Faultside, and features Keane's Somewhere Only We Know, Let 'Em In by Paul McCartney and Wings, plus a little bit of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's Summertime. Click here to hear it on Faultside's MySpace player.

Big thanks to all of you who voted.

WHAT IS THE BEST KEANE MASHUP TRACK?

Hello folks. In a quiet moment at km.com HQ today, we were wondering what the best ever mashup track to feature Keane is (a mashup being a track which mixes two completely different songs together). So we thought we'd ask you for your suggestions - as you folks know everything about Keane.

Here are some decent contenders which we found:

Keane vs Kelis: Bossy We Know

Keane vs Janet Jackson: Someone To Call Any Wonder

Keane vs Chicane: Wake Up (this was an official release, but it still sort of counts)

That should give you an idea of the sort of thing we're talking about. Now, please post your own mashup suggestions/discoveries in the comments below (ideally with a link to a sound clip or video featuring the mashup).

We'll check them out, then perhaps we can have a vote and decide, officially, what the best Keane mashup is.

Tim Talks About The Mini-Album And The Band's Future

One of the most successful British bands of the last half-decade
is London’s Keane. Arriving five years ago with their debut Hopes
and Fears, the guitar free trio followed in Coldplay’s early
success, prodding the listener with biting piano pop that stormed
the charts both at home and abroad. Now, fast–forward five
years, and Keane is equally as successful three albums in, if not
more so. Yet, the dark piano–pop slapped on Hopes and Fears
was expanded upon on the last two albums, Under the Iron Sea
and more recently, Perfect Symmetry. But Perfect Symmetry
landed nearly two years ago, and the band has been busy at
work, mostly crossing the globe playing gigs and intermittingly
recording back home in London. And what comes next,
according to pianist Tim Rice–Oxley, is anybody’s guess. “I think
the story of a band takes many years to be told,” replies the
songwriter, who shares duties with vocalist Tom Chaplin. “My
hope is that as we continue to prove that we are musically brave
and hungry, people will continue to be intrigued and excited by
our music. Personally, I didn’t get in to U2 until they released
Achtung Baby, and similarly I’m sure there are many people who
weren't into Keane after Hopes and Fears who suddenly found
that they got a kick out of Perfect Symmetry.”
After another lengthy tour taking them from Japan to
Kitchener and back, Keane will prep a mini-album of sorts, a set
of new songs and odds and ends set for release early next year.
“We’ve made another record, albeit what we’re calling a “mini–
album”,” reveals Rice–Oxley. “We did it mostly while we’ve been
on the road. There should be four or five new songs on there,
plus a couple of other stragglers —remixes and such like — and
it’s going to be a really interesting piece of work. There are two
songs that we did in collaboration with the genius Somalian rapper K’naan — sometime resident of your fine country — and
they’re really different for Keane. One of them is one of the most
instant and accessible tracks we've ever done I think. Aside form
that, I’ve been writing whenever I can, although I don’t find it
easy on tour. I’ve got one song pretty much in the bag that I
think could be a future single, but everything else is flotsam and
jetsam at the moment, waiting to be kicked into shape once we
    get off the road.”
This mini–album is not just a stopgap solution in between
albums, stressed Rice–Oxley. Instead, it’s a completely new work
in its own right, and one in which the band is excited to see
unleashed as another addition to their catalogue. “Most of it is
recorded and mixed already, as we’ve worked really hard on it
while we’ve been traveling, going into studios all over the world
and working on the tour bus all night,” adds Rice–Oxley. To me,
the songs are pretty philosophical, K’naan’s influence possibly,
except one that is a kind of Fleetwood Mac–style love song. I
guess that’s because with the very new stuff that isn’t finished
yet, I’ve found myself reaching back to the very basic things I feel
passionately about, like old friends, hopes, regrets, small town
dreams and disappointments, and the ruthless passage of time.”
Until that, the band will simply hit the road, debuting new
songs alongside older favourites, as Rice–Oxley is promising a
strong assembly of both at the Kitchener gig. “There’ll be a
bunch of new songs, all the old favourites, maybe a cover and
maybe a few songs played acoustically,” continues Rice–Oxley. To
be honest, it depends what we’re feeling on the day, but I
promise it will be a lot of fun. Plus, Tom is one of the best
frontmen around, and I can guarantee that he will be racing
around the stage and doing everything humanly possible to get people singing and dancing. We really love playing live, more so
than ever before, and we go out there with a fire and a
determination to entertain that I hope is pretty irresistible to any
    crowd.”
Yet, despite all Keane’s success, the band feels that they
have just begun, and that a fresh piece of slate is being prepared
once more. “To me, we really have just begun,” concludes Rice–
Oxley. “You always have to write as the person you really are, and
not believe the hype about being a rock star or whatever, as that
doesn’t mean anything. When I listen to music I want to hear
about things I can relate to, and I want to know that the writer is
giving me access to their most personal and honest thoughts and
ideas. It's not always easy to do that when you live in the bubble
that comes with being in a band, but that's what I hope we will
always do.” Keane headline Centre in the Square on Saturday,
    September 19th. Lights support.
